Automated Robot Coffee Drive-Thru
We developed a fully automated drive-thru system for p!ng, integrating a location-aware ordering app and on-site processing technology to deliver fresh, customized coffee orders with zero wait times.
Summary
We started the p!ng project by developing a robust iOS application that forms the foundation of their drive-thru experience. The goal was to create a seamless, location-aware ordering system that ensures each order is prepared just in time, so customers always receive a fresh, hot beverage. The app's geolocation technology detects when a user is approaching the drive-thru, triggering the automated system to start making their order as they get closer. This precise timing eliminates the typical frustrations of stale coffee or lengthy wait times, resulting in a highly efficient and personalized pickup process that sets p!ng apart from traditional coffee chains

In addition to the iOS app, Studio Init was responsible for designing the entire in-store experience. This encompassed everything from conceptualizing the physical layout of the automated drive-thru pod to creating an intuitive user journey for customers navigating the pickup process. The store design prioritized efficiency, speed, and a welcoming atmosphere, ensuring that the technology worked in harmony with the physical space to deliver a unique, user-friendly experience.

Our team took on the complete engineering effort for p!ng's end-to-end solution, covering both software and hardware integrations. We developed the backend systems that manage order flow and the on-site technology that communicates with the mobile app. The result is a fully automated process where the order, preparation, and delivery are synchronized for optimal quality and speed. Whether it's a simple black coffee or a customized latte, every drink is made to order, minimizing human error and maximizing customer satisfaction.
